Jerry Gene Isbell (PPA 324)

February 17, 1944 – March 17, 2025

Jerry Gene Isbell, 81, of Gahanna, OH, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025. Originally from Chinook, MT, Jerry lived a life filled with adventure, passion, and dedication to his family and his love of flying.

A professional pilot for over 50 years, Jerry logged more than 30,000 hours in the sky. His favorite place was at 45,000 feet, but his roots were always on the ground- as a true Montana Cowboy. He was a proud member of the Professional Pilots Association, QB Quiet Birds, and Central Ohio Soaring Association. Jerry was also involved with the Young Eagles – EAA, the Air Force, ham radio, NRA and competitive shooting. A respected flight instructor and mentor, he believed in the power of prayer and had a deep passion for teaching others.

Beyond his achievements in aviation, Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Isbell, his cherished best friend.

He is survived by his children, Sonja Wilcox (John Wilcox) and Wendi Dennison (Chad Dennison); grandchildren, Alex Wilcox, Kayli Wheeler, and Caleb Dennison; and his loving extended family.

In Jerry’s own words, “Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: if you’re alive, it isn’t. Don’t cry for this old cowboy. He’s passed the final test. The Big Boss called him home tonight to find his final rest.”

A Funeral Service to honor Jerry will take place on Saturday, March 22nd at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home (1051 E Johnstown Rd) beginning at 1PM. Visitation will directly follow the service until 3PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young Eagles https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/KYUJ466R69ZFL
