James Warren Tippie (PPA 222)

James Warren “Tip” Tippie of Gahanna, Ohio, born February 9, 1940, in Lancaster, Ohio, died March 18, 2025, at Mount Carmel East Hospital.

Jim graduated from Lancaster High School and attended the University of Cincinnati. Jim served in the United States Air Force, which was the beginning of his career in aviation. Jim would go on to serve as a private pilot for the Columbus Fair Auto Auction.

After remaining a bachelor into his sixties, Jim met and fell in love with Astrid “Maggie” Dye and devoted his life to her through marriage on Saturday, October 4, 2004, a date which by total “coincidence” was a bye week for his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

While aviation was always a love for Jim, he kept many other hobbies and passions after retirement, including woodworking, working in his ever-expanding garden, and developing into a very avid beekeeper. Jim would often sell his honey in the community, and was a member of the Ohio Beekeepers Association, where he could often be found teaching classes.

A few years after marrying the love of his life, Jim set off to travel the country with Maggie in a RV they had just purchased, finding many adventures, laughs, and love along the way. Jim took his Grandchildren on camping trips finding even more adventures and memories. Upon his Grandson Holden finding the ripe old age of 14, Jim gave him the driving lesson of a lifetime, by taking Holden to downtown Columbus and instructing him to find his way home during rush hour. As an aside, Holden is now an excellent driver at 22. Jim found great joy in spending time with his Grandchildren and Stepchildren and spoiling them rotten as often as possible. After being a bachelor for six decades, Jim had a family he cherished, and built a life encompassed by them. Jim also had a very close and special bond with former Co-Pilot Jeff Singer, often stating that their relationship was like that of father and son.

Jim was preceded in death by Maggie, his beloved Wife of twelve years, his Parents Warren and Ruth Tippie, Son Shane Dye, and Grandson Gage M. Dye.

Jim is survived by his Brother Mike Tippie (Barbara), and a Sister Joyce Thiele, Daughter Sara Dye, Daughter in Law Joy Dye, many Nieces and Nephews as well as his many adored Grandchildren.

Jim will be greatly missed but has returned to his beloved Wife Maggie whom he had so dearly missed every day since her passing, and this brings all of us who knew and loved him solace.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, March 24, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 West Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, Ohio, 43147. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 25, 2025, with an hour prior visitation. Interment at Forest Rose Cemetery.
