Michael B. “Mike” Sayers, age 67, died after several years of a debilitating terminal illness on August 3, 2007.
Born and educated in Upper Arlington, Ohio, he learned to fly in his father’s airplane on a back yard airstrip. Getting his pilot’s license the day he turned 16, he continued to acquire many flight certifications including qualifying for his helicopter rating in one day. Mike was Chief Pilot for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and flew for various Ohio corporations. Based in Nigeria, Africa he flew for an international oil corporation. During his life, he worked for The Upper Arlington Company, was a professional scuba diver, raised strawberries, helped on the family farm in Ostrander, Ohio, and taught beekeeping in Egypt as part of a Federal Program, and traveled around the world. He was a member of The Professional Pilots Association, Quiet Birdmen, Civil Air Patrol, Airplane Owners and Pilots’ Association, end Sea Nags Diving Club. His achievements and winning smile touched more lives than can be mentioned.
Preceded in death by his parents Frank T. and Isabelle S. Sayers, and his former wife Rosemarie “Rory” Woischke. He is survived by his sisters, J. Desdamona Sayers and Ann T. Sayers; his nephew, Ian S. Hamill; his Uncle and Aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Martin Peter and Marjorie Sayers; and many cousins.
He loved life; travel, reading, nature, hunting, swimming, and always, flying. He never met a stranger. Mike was a blessing and inspiration to his large, loving family and, many friends.
Friends may call Friday August 10, 2007, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High Street, (1/2 mile south of I-270), Worthington, Ohio. Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 1 p.m. Rev. Lynette Decker, officiating.
