Born on August 12, 1939 to the late Elisha and Lena Carroll, Raymond graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, TN. He proudly served in the Army Reserves and then the Air Force. Ray was a Pilot and really loved flying and teaching his many students to fly. He always said that his greatest accomplishment was making people laugh and being “a great Pilot and a very good Flight Instructor”. Ray could fix almost anything. When his wife thought something was junk, he always found a way to make something beautiful out of it. He enjoyed playing pinochle and bingo at the Pickerington and Olivedale Senior Centers, where he met many wonderful friends.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeanne (Cockayne) Carroll; sons, Milton (Lisa) Carroll and Dennis (Jennifer) Rigney Carroll; several grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Wills; sister-in-law, A.O. Carroll; brother-in-law, Merle (Tami) Cockayne; Jeanne’s sister and family, JoAnn (Jim) McMillan, Debbie McMillan, Janie and Shawn Deidrick, Willie McMillan, Tracy Juke, and Hayden, who’s help and support was greatly appreciated; nieces and nephews; his friend, William Baker, who was always by his side; his flying friends, which are too many to mention; and his schnauzers, Suzie Q and Daisy Mae.
Ray was preceded in death by siblings, Vesta Moneymaker, Mary Jane Giles, and Henry Carroll.
