John Milstead (PPA #139)

MILSTEAD John E. Milstead Sr., age 75, formerly of Plain City, Oh., passed on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 in Hudson, Fla.

Born August 16, 1926 in Cleveland, Oh. He served in WW II aboard the USS South Dakota-BB57 “Battleship X” and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Former Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper and one of their first Pilots. Retired chief pilot for Geupel Construction Company.

He was an accomplished self-taught artist and musician who enjoyed sailing, fishing and RV’ing with friends. Member of F&AM Scottish Rite, VFW, American Legion, American Battleship Association, USS South Dakota Association, Professional Pilots Association, Quiet Birdmen, Royal Order of Moose and New California Presbyterian Church.

Preceded in death 2 months earlier by his wife Eleanor Stafford Milstead, parents Edward Milstead and Barbara Milstead Ott, step-father Dennis Ott, sister Dee Milstead Wade and brother Donald Milstead. Survived by son, John E. (April) Milstead Jr.; daughter, Barbara (John) McCarthy; step-son, Gary (Kathy) Stafford; step-daughter, Sheryl (Ken) Kibbey; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Also survived by special friends, Dr. Rafael and Linda Belliard, Joe and Wilma Holbrook, Al and Eve Crego, and Jack Cowan.

There will be no calling hours, private family memorial at a later date. The family wishes you keep John in your thoughts with your favorite memory of him. Memorial contributions can be made in John’s name to the U.S.O. The family is being served by the RADER-LYNCH AND DODDS FUNERAL HOME, London.
